#MusicMonday: Solutions

SOLUTIONS: (L-R) Kai, Robin and Nicky.

Solutions, South Wales’ rising rockstars, fresh from playing the NME Awards show at Cardiff Barfly on the weekend, talk to @Tweet_Cardiff about arm wrestling, Saturday night antics and Anvil.

How did you guys get started as a band?
Nicky [Williams] used to be in a band called Gunrack. He played at Barfly once when I [Robin Williams] was working there. From that point onwards I knew we had to be in a band together!.
After far too much chasing around we finally started having 5pm jams in my bedroom and from there we enlisted Kai [Woolen-Lewis] to form Solutions.
We’ve all grown up listening to Punk/Indie in one shape or another, so it was pretty easy to gel.

How long have you been together?
Conception would be 2 years ago in May. I guess you could say birth as a unit was at our first show in August 2008 at Buffalo Bar.

What’s been your fave gig so far?
In such a short space of time we’ve had the pleasure of sharing the stage with some awesome bands!.
To say any single one was my favourite would be to dilute how much I’ve enjoyed every single show!
But for sheer energy, vibe and positivity, I’d have to say when we headlined Cardiff Barfly on our December 2008 tour with OK Pilot.

Who are your musical influences?
It would be long-winded and slightly boring if I named them all. As a band we take influence from a lot of different styles. We listen to anything from The Temper Trap to Husker Du, Fall Out Boy to The Twilight Sad and often you would find us sat in my front room, beers in hand on a Saturday night rocking out to System Of A Down and Slipknot.
Naturally our musical influences will guide the riffs, but we use day-to-day life to decide how it sounds.

What would you be doing if you weren’t in the band?
Finding another band to be in. It’s all I can/want to do.

Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time?
Hopefully making enough money to live/play and to live comfortably whilst doing the thing that you love every single day with two of your best friends would be awesome!

Any diva demands backstage?
Nicky likes a massage by a Korean arm wrestler, Kai tends to gargle llama blood…I have to have 374 candles lit and facing south.

Which three guests would you invite to dinner (dead or alive)?
Joe Strummer, Johnny Cash + Lips (Anvil)

Anything you guys would like to add?
“Keep on rocking, Keep on rocking, to this metal tonight”
Anvil – Metal On Metal
